Summer At The Library is here! This July and August the Ellsworth Public Library offers 30 free, fun-packed, and inspiring events for all ages on top of most of its regular programs.

Interlibrary Loan Service temporarily unavailable at the Ellsworth Public Library
ELLSWORTH – Service will resume once the Maine State Library finalizes negotiations with a new provider. Patrons will still be able to request, and place holds on the 46,000 in-house items at the Ellsworth Public Library. All items that were previously requested from other libraries and are already on hold at the Ellsworth Public Library can be checked but need to be returned no later than June 22.

Ellsworth Public Library Expands Outreach Efforts with Neighboorhod Libraries in Rural Communities
ELLSWORTH – The Ellsworth Public Library has deployed book boxes in three rural communities:
Surry, Lamoine, and Hancock. The boxes will serve as neighboorhood libraries and represent the commitment to overcoming geographic barriers that hinder access to library services in rural areas.

Ellsworth Public Library and Northern Light Health to launch new literacy initiative
ELLSWORTH – Ellsworth Public Library (EPL) and Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital are launching
“Baby’s 1st Library Card,” a collaboration fostering early literacy and a love for reading in infants.
Starting May 23, 2024, every baby born at Maine Coast Hospital will receive a welcome package that includes a board book and a complimentary voucher for a library card for the Ellsworth Public Library.

Ellsworth Artists create Limited-Edition Patron Cards for EPL
ELLSWORTH – This is a first: New or existing patrons of the Ellsworth Public Library will be able to sign
up for locally designed library cards starting April 8.

Special Community Events in June
Ellsworth – As the Ellsworth’s Public Library is getting ready for the summer season, this June, its
team is hosting three special community events. Starting June 12 at 6 PM, the library invites
patrons, residents, and visitors to a free nature documentary screening. On June 27 at 6 PM
there will be an author’s talk with Teri Anderholm, who describes the ups and downs of leaving
her corporate life to follow her dream of opening an Inn in Bar Habor. And on Saturday, June 29
at 10 AM the library kicks off their kids’ summer reading program with a party on the lawn.

Special Community Events in May
ELLSWORTH – This May, Ellsworth’s Public Library hosts several special community events including
the Annual Meeting of the Ellsworth Historical Society, an exhibit by local artist Liv Pearl whose
work is inspired by Downeast landscapes, an Author Talk with Mark Borton about Roosevelt’s
efforts to make renewable tidal power a reality in Maine about 100 years ago, a Bridgertonthemed party, and a 3-Day Spring Fling Book Sale hosted by the Friends of the Ellsworth Public
Library.
