Reading Dragons & Friends returns this October. This program is now in its third year, and we think that deserves a celebration!
This month, we are launching a special Downtown Ellsworth Scavenger Hunt in partnership with local businesses.
Here is how it works:
It’s pretty straightforward:
- Pick up a Scavenger Hunt Quest Card at the library.
- Go on a search! We have hidden 12 dragons in the windows of local businesses. Stroll around downtown with your kids to find them!
- Submit your card and we will enter you into the drawing to win a cool dragon hand puppet.
The contest runs from October 1-29, 2026.
Win a dragon hand puppet!
For a chance to win this little buddy, you need to submit your Scavenger Hunt Quest Card. They are available at the library. Just talk to desk staff. Once submitted, you will be added to a drawing. Good luck!!
Do I need a library card to participate?
A library card is not required to join the Downtown Ellsworth Dragon Search!
But if you are curious you can learn how to sign-up for one here.
What are Reading Dragons?
Reading Dragons are collectible cards with families of dragons and other fantastic creatures like unicorns, griffins, and more!
It is free for kids to participate and boosts literacy by incentivizing reading. Readers keep track of their time, and receive “families” of dragons, released weekly during the school year from October through May.

Stay in the loop
We send out a newsletter twice a month. It’s an easy way to find out about programs like the Downtown Ellsworth Dragon Search and everything else that is going on at the library.
Downtown Ellsworth Business Partners
Thank you to our Downtown Business Partners for joining the fun and helping us add some playfulness to this October!
